Gus Kenworthy is set to appear on the cover of Attitude’s March 2016 cover, accompanied by what we can only assume will be a steamy photo spread.
The 24-year-old champion skier has had a lot to say since coming out in October of last year, and a lot of skin to show in turn.
Here’s a preview of some of the topics broached in his upcoming Attitude interview:
On why he chose to come out he says: “I realised if I did hold on to the secret until my ski career was done it just validated that there was some shame. I didn’t want to be ashamed, I wanted to be proud and an advocate. When I told my family and friends, I felt so much more liberated and better about myself and my life.”
Talking about his first gay experience, he tells Attitude: “I made the first move and it was reciprocated, and he had never, ever kissed a guy like that, so it was very much a new experience for both of us and it started a pretty long relationship.”
Gus also speaks openly how he believes Russia was “an unfit hosting country” for the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014: “There was an attempted Pride parade in St Petersburg, and it ended up with gay guys being stoned. People, women and children, were throwing stones and it’s so horrible, ridiculous and medieval that you realise ‘I don’t want to be in this country’.”
The March issue of Attitude is out digitally now and in print in shops on 3rd February. Here’s another pic from the photo shoot.
